Q&A with Eddie Ifft

Edgy US comic Eddie Ifft is probably best known for his podcast Talkin’ Sh!t – the show has had over 10 million downloads. It’s also the only podcast to have been removed from iTunes for ‘offensive content’.

Now he’s a father. So his new Fringe show Excess Baggage will cover “easy” topics, he says, “like school shootings, burqas, anxiety, world poverty and the apocalypse”.

“I’ll make jokes about anything as long as there is a point to it,” says Ifft. “I don’t like to offend people. I want to make people laugh. Sometimes, though, I think there’s comedy in hypocrisy or sensitive issues. It’s all in perspective and context.”

“Most comedians that do podcasts in Hollywood worry about losing work so they are very careful about what they say. We find comedy in honesty and have had to suffer the consequences a few times, but I guess that’s the price to pay for trying to have some integrity.”

If your child doesn’t turn out funny, will you disown
them?

I don’t care if she is funny. However, I was laughing at her farting the other day. I was hoping I could teach her that farts are funny. My wife was upset because the baby wasn’t farting, she was actually pooping on the floor.

One of the more prominent videos on your YouTube channel features you jelly wrestling. Will you be jelly wrestling to promote your show at this year’s Fringe?

Only if it’s with girls in bikinis. By the way, those girls beat the crap out of me after I asked them to take it easy.

Why should people come to your show?

Because I love Adelaide and I look forward to this time of the year to debut my all new material for the people of Adelaide.

Eddie Ifft will perform Excess
Baggage
at the Garden of Unearthly Delights from February 12th to March 13th.
