WOMAD Wrap - Monday

On the final day of WOMADelaide 2016, I'm not going to lie – we were exhausted. But we're total pros, so we still managed to see plenty of really great bands performing their socks off. Jen's taken some wonderful photos, and you can see those below.

Instead, let me share with you a brand new WOMAD tradition, started in my haze of festival-induced delirium. I call it: WOMAD Bingo.

Final day fun with WOMAD BINGO! Have you spotted any of these?- Justin#womad2016 #womadelaide #hackjournalism

.

Yep – a moment of inspiration on the tram in, and suddenly the ideas came thick and fast. Good thing I always carry four pens, an A4 notepad and a highlighter to a music festival! (Again, total pros.)

In no time, I spotted "indecision at the compost bin" and "middle-aged man that never leaves the Coopers stall", "cardboard chairs" and "uncomfortable conservatives".

In fact, I kept going until, hungry for "alpaca wool shoes", I actually asked a kind Colombian merchant whether her woolen shoes were made of alpaca fleece. She said 'yes', excitedly! But then she asked if I wanted to try them on – and I didn't really feel like I could refuse, because truly, I had no good reason to be asking in the first place.

As it turns out, telling the handsome Colombian merchant that you were awkwardly trying on their beautiful, lovingly...

So there I was, trying on alpaca wool shoes, looking for an out. The most comfortable shoes I've ever worn, these far too classy shoes, and they didn't fit. Phew! They didn't fit! I thought, I'm out of here. But then she raced out the back to get a pair that would!

Finally, I had to awkwardly explain that I was playing a game of bingo. I'm somewhat glad she didn't realise the implications of that 'til I was far gone.

By the end of the night I'd amassed 22 out of 25 WOMAD stereotypes, and more than a few strange looks.

By unpopular request: here's the final #womadbingo scoresheet!tl;dr: it was a pretty great WOMAD.I'm signing off on...
