Red w Black Wide Brim Kentucky Derby Hat, Church Hat 。This is a fabulous tilt/toy hat from the 1930s\' that will continue to be a fashion statement for years to come! The hat is made of black straw on the top, and red straw on the bottom of the brim. The short crown is edged in a black stiffer wide grosgrain band. The crown is surrounded by a short brim which is black on top, and red on the bottom, visible on one side, due to the fact that it is turned up at that side, and pierced by 2 red/black tinted tall feathers. There is a black grosgrain bow under it. A grosgrain covered elastic band is attached to the hat to help it in a tilted position. This is a collector\'s dream! Tilt hats, or toy hats were popular in the 1930s and 1940s. They were worn at an angle, covering one eye and held to the back of the head by a strap, rigid ring, elastic band beneath the hair, or a combination of these. 30s\' Fashion certainly seemed fussier than the 1920s\' with its relentless ornaments of bows, trims and frills. Label: THE MISSES HAT SHOP - FILENE\'S + Size 22 Label (Size is not importantly for tilt hats because they are not fitted on the head, but worn on top of the head). Filene\'s was an upscale Boston department store from 1881 to 2006, when it became Macy\'s. This is an authentic piece of fashion history! This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years. Feathers, straw, flowers & veils are fragile, given their age. Mannequin not for sale.
