Fancy Old Straw Hat Bonnet W/ Satin Bow Wide Brim. For Sale 。A beautiful & striking example of millinery fashions of the era. The beautiful color is like a garnet. This hat consists of a short delicate straw crown which extends at the back to create a cap under the brim. The crown is surrounded by a wide, downturned brim edged in grosgrain of similar color. There is also a brown grosgrain band around the crown, plus 2 orange & brown bows made out of feathers at each side of the crown. The look is completed by a beautiful matching veil. The wartime 40’s saw a huge variety of hats that were suitable for any face shape, hairstyle or personal preference. Throughout the war and on both sides of the Atlantic, elaborate creations brightened dreary utility fashions, brought about by rationing. The only items not rationed were hat materials. Explosions of feathers, veiling and artificial flowers were popular. The label was created by a group of well-known designers who wanted to remain anonymous and wanted to support the New York Creation label and keep it competitive with French styles of the era. The label is small, white and blue. This hat is in wonderful vintage condition and has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years.
