The pearls and fragile leaves are slightly imperfect, but it adds to the authenticity of the hat\'s age, and does not distract when wearing. There is a fabric covered wire circle arched at the back to place the hat in a tilted position. At the back of the crown there is a matching wide fabric bow, which has two ribbons cascading down. A matching veil finishes the striking look. Tilt hats were popular in the 1930s and 1940s. They were worn at an angle and held to the back of the head by a strap, rigid ring, elastic band beneath the hair, or a combination of these.
