Cath Styles is a stand-up comic with a career lifetime of stories in which to explore all the rewarding and difficult aspects of nursing: "The highs, the lows, the wins, the losses, the dark, beautiful, sad, and hilarious." Her show is playing at the Tuxedo Cat until Tuesday – we had a little chat with her to find out a bit more about it.

Tell us a little bit about your show.

Cath Styles: SHIFT is about my crazy life, and trying to make my two jobs get along. I've been in a steady relationship with nursing for twenty-five years, and been having a hot fling with comedy for ten. I'm trying to work out who to stay with. Up till now, I've stayed with nursing. For the kids. Because they like to eat.

What was the most challenging aspect of putting your show together?

CS: Marrying my two jobs into a show has not been that easy! Sometimes after I finish the show, I feel like I've just knocked off work, which is tiring.

What, in your opinion, is sexy?

CS: I'd love to have a more intelligent and funny answer, but being intelligent and funny is sexy. It just is.

Describe your ideal breakfast. What cocktail would you pair it with?

CS: Eggs Benny with a Bellini. Perfection.

What is the biggest accolade you've received for your work?

CS: I've had some great reviews, but one night after my show a couple gave me a hundred dollar tip. A hundred dollars! I would have given them a lap dance for that.
